Probably the single most important invention of the modern era. It not only enabled the modern high- rise city but it enabled the electronics era by making it possible to have temperature controlled clean rooms for silicon chip manufacturing.

Oh yeah, I had a swamp cooler. Didn’t cool so well during monsoon season.

Upstairs unit crapped out. Ran the swamp cooler yesterday instead - it was 98.7 up there when I left to go running yesterday evening. I’m just staying downstairs until this heat wave breaks.

And made it possible for Las Vegas tp be more than a sleepy little railroad stop, and for Miami to become more than a tiny village in a swamp. Whether those are good things or not is dependent on how you feel about those places, but they were almost uninhabitable before A/C.

I live in Tempe. I have no reason to step out again today, it was still 94 degrees at 3am this morning. There wouldn’t be desert cities if it wasn’t for AC.
